Beijing Olympic Games

 

  • <span class="title">Forbidden City</span><br/>While in Beijing to support the New Zealand team at the 2008 Olympic Games, the Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, visited the Forbidden City on 7 August 2008.
  • <span class="title">New Zealand Team Welcome</span><br/>On their first day in China (7 August), the Governor-General Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, attended the New Zealand Team Welcome in Beijing, where it was announced that rower Mahe Drysdale would be New Zealand's flag bearer for opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand are pictured with New Zealand gold medal athletes Sarah Ulmer and Hamish Carter.
  • <span class="title">Sailing Centre at Qingdao</span><br/>While in China, the Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand visited the Olympic Sailing Venue at Qingdao on 9 August 2008. The visit included a tour of the athlete's village where they met New Zealand boardrider Barbara Kendall.
  • <span class="title">National Centre for the Performing Arts</span><br/>While in China , the Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand visited the National Centre for the Performing Arts, on 9 August 2008. Pictured from left is Tony Browne, New Zealand's Ambassador to China, Mrs Satyanand and the Governor-General, Mrs Susan Browne, and Yang Jingmao, Vice-President of the NCPA.
  • <span class="title">Qingdao Sister City Agreement</span><br/>While in China, the Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand visited the city of Qingdao on 9 August. Qingdao is located at the southern tip of the Shandong Peninsula and hosted the Olympic Sailing Venue. During their visit, the Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand attended the signing of a sister city agreement between Auckland's North Shore City and Qingdao City. The Mayor of North Shore, Andrew Williams, is pictured on the left of Mrs Satyanand, whilst the Mayor of Qingdao, Xia Geng, is pictured on the right of the Governor-General.
  • <span class="title">Athlete's Team Village</span><br/>While in China to support the New Zealand team at the Beijing Olympics, the Governor-General Hon Anand Satyanand and Mrs Susan Satyanand toured the Athlete's Village, where they met (from left): Tony Popplewell, Deputy Chef de Mission; Amster Reedy, Team Kaumatua and Dave Currie, Chef de Mission.
  • <span class="title">Great Wall of China</span><br/>During their visit to China to support the New Zealand team competing at the Beijing Olympic Games, the Governor-General Hon Anand Satyanand and Mrs Susan Satyanand toured the Great Wall of China on Mutianyu on 14 August 2008.   <p>  &nbsp;  </p>
