Gisborne Regional Visit

  • <span class="title">Cobham School (2)</span><br/>The Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand were given a Maori welcome by students of Gisborne's Cobham School when they visited the school on October 20.
  • <span class="title">Cobham School (1)</span><br/>The Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand visited Gisborne's Cobham School on October 20 where they are pictured meeting student Chiyah Oti.
  • <span class="title">New Wave Surfboards</span><br/>Gisborne is renowned for its surf beaches and so as a part of their regional visit to the district, the Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand visited New Wave Surfboards on October 20 2008. They are pictured talking to Lee Coulston, surfboard glasser, who is working on a surfboard, and Ben Christianson, the company’s production manager.
  • <span class="title">Turanga Health (2)</span><br/>The Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand talk to school children who attended the powhiri welcoming them to the Turanga Health Kaumatua Programme at Gisborne’s Whakato Marae on 21 October 2008.
  • <span class="title">Turanga Health (1)</span><br/>The Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand visited Turanga Health’s Kaumatua Programme on 21 October. The Governor-General is pictured speaking on the paepae of Whakato Marae where the programme was held.
  • <span class="title">Family Court Judges Conference</span><br/>The Governor-General officially opened the Conference of the New Zealand Family Court Judges on 22 October 2008. He is pictured with Principal Family Court Judge Peter Boshier (left) and Ngati Porou kaumatua Selwyn Parata, at a powhiri for the judges at Tairawhiti Polytechnic, in Gisborne.
  • <span class="title">Motu weka programme</span><br/>The Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand visited the Department of Conservation weka conservation project at the small inland settlement of Motu on 23 October.  They are pictured with DOC Ranger Joe Waikari (holding weka) and DOC Area Manager Andy Bassett.
  • <span class="title">Motu School</span><br/>The Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand visited the isolated East Cape settlement of Motu and met the community at Motu School on 23 October.
  • <span class="title">Lytton High School</span><br/>On Monday 20 October the Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand visited Lytton High School and the Governor-General officially opened its new Outdoor Gymnasium and Sports Centre.
  • <span class="title">A & P Show</span><br/>Agriculture is an important part of the Poverty Bay economy and so the Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand visited the Poverty Bay A and P Association Spring Show at the Gisborne Showgrounds on 18 October. They are pictured with Association President Warwick Stevens and a representative of Tairawhiti Polytechnic, which won the award for Best Large Trade Outdoor Site.

In October 2008, the Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, made a regional visit to Gisborne and its surrounding districts.
