With the closure of Government House Wellington for a three-year conservation project, when resident in the capital, the Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand and Mrs Susan Satyanand, will reside at Vogel House in Lower Hutt, which has been renamed Government House Vogel in the interim. Vogel House was built as a wedding gift for Jocelyn Riddiford from her parents when she married James Vogel in 1932. In 1966 Mrs Vogel gifted the property to the government as a Prime Ministerial residence. The House has been the official residence of, among others, Prime Minister, the late Rt Hon Sir Robert Muldoon, and for a short time Prime Minister, the late Rt Hon David Lange. From 1999 to 2008, it was the home of the Hon Jim Anderton.
