Governor-General visits Rotorua

  • <span class="title">Te Papaiouru Marae welcome</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, began a three day visit to Rotorua on 26 September 2007 with a formal welcome on to Te Arawa's Te Papaiouru Marae. The marae is home to the historic Tamatekapua Meeting House pictured in the background.
  • <span class="title">Te Puia Maori Arts and Crafts Institute</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, visited Te Puia Maori Arts and Crafts Institute and the Whakarewarewa thermal area on 26 September 2007. They are pictured in the thermal area with Mr Kevin Winters, Mayor of Rotorua District.
  • <span class="title">Rotorua Ethnic Council</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, met with members of the Rotorua Bay of Plenty Indian Society and the Rotorua Ethnic Council on 27 September 2007. At the Gandhi Hall, home of the Society, the Governor-General's party were addressed by Society President Hasmukh ChHagan, Council President Alexis LewGor, Rotorua MP Steve Chadwick and Rotorua Mayor Kevin Winters. The Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand are pictured with Indian community stalwart, Narsinh Patel.
  • <span class="title">Lakeland Queen</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, toured Lake Rotorua on the Lakeland Queen paddle ship on 27 October 2007. Under the watchful eye of the Master, Mrs Satyanand was given the opportunity to steer the ship for a few minutes.
  • <span class="title">Waipa Mill</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, toured Red Stag Timber's Waipa Mill, Rotorua's largest private employer. During their visit, they were briefed on the company's operation by Phillip Verry, Chairman of Red Stag Timber and EROS Capital Ltd; Tim Rigter, General Manager of Red Stag; and Mark Rawson, General Manager of EROS Capital. The Governor-General and Mrs Satyanand are pictured discussing the grading of timber with secondary processing manager, John Keefe.
  • <span class="title">St Chads Communication Centre</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, visited St Chads Communication Centre, which is a facility for people with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. St Chads offers many programmes including creative expression, life skills and recreation programmes. During Their Excellencies visit on 28 September 2007, the Governor-General participated in a music class.   • <span class="title">Meeting local JPs</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, met with members of the Rotorua and Districts Justices Association at the Rotorua District Council chambers on 28 September 2007.
