Governor-General visits Southland

  • <span class="title">Fiordland Conservation Trust</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, met with the newly formed Fiordland Conservation Trust, including Chairperson of the Trust, Roger McNaughton (pictured).
  • <span class="title">Doubtful Sound</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, visited Doubtful Sound on 8 October 2007. They are pictured on the bridge of a Real Journeys launch with Master Frank Wells and Real Journeys' chief executive Dave Hawkey.
  • <span class="title">Wilmot Pass</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, visited Doubtful Sound on a Real Journeys excursion on 8 October 2007. They are pictured at Fiordland's Wilmot Pass.
  • <span class="title">Milford Rd Avalanche Programme</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, were briefed on the Transit New Zealand Milford Rd Avalanche Programme on 9 October 2007. As a part of the visit, they were taken by helicopter to a weather station near the summit of Mt Belle.   • <span class="title">Fiordland College</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, visited Te Anau's Fiordland College on 10 October 2007. They are pictured speaking to Year 9 and 10 pupils.
  • <span class="title">Burwood Bush</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, visited the Takahe breeding programme at Burwood Bush near Te Anau on 9 October 2007 where the Governor-General is pictured inspecting an egg incubator.
  • <span class="title">Whenua Hou Island</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, visited Whenua Hou (Codfish Island) off the coast of Stewart Island on 9 October 2007 to inspect the native bird breeding programmes. The island is a predator-free bird sanctuary and is leading work on breeding the endangered Kakapo. They and Department of Conservation kakapo programme officer, Tristan Rawlence, are pictured with some Campbell Island teals.
  • <span class="title">Ulva Island</span><br/>On 10 October 2007, the Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, visited Ulva Island, off the coast of Stewart Island, accompanied by staff from the Department of Conservation. Ulva Island is a predator-free bird sanctuary for rare and endangered bird and plant species.
  • <span class="title">Halfmoon Bay School visit</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, visited Halfmoon Bay Primary School on Stewart Island on 10 October 2007 and opened the School's new administration block.
  • <span class="title">Tiwai Aluminimum Smelter</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, visited the Tiwai Aluminimum Smelter near Bluff, on 11 October 2007. They are pictured with staff of the smelter.
  • <span class="title">Southland Institute of Technology</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, visited the Southland Institute of Technology on 11 October 2007, where they met Julian Mess, Deputy Chief Executive, and Maree Howden, Head of the Faculty of Health, Humanities &amp; Computing.
  • <span class="title">Southland Conservation Board</span><br/>The Governor-General, Hon Anand Satyanand, and Mrs Susan Satyanand, met with the Southland Conservation Board in Invercargill on 11 October 2007.
